Product Overview

The G2R-2-SND DC24V is the LED-indicator + coil-suppression diode variant of Omron's G2R-series 8-pin DPDT (2-pole changeover, also called 2 form C) plug-in power relay. The relay has a single 24 VDC coil, two sets of changeover contacts (each contact: 1 NO + 1 NC with a common terminal = DPDT = 2-pole), and a continuous carry current of 5 A per pole. The 'S' suffix identifies the slim 8-pin form (P2RF-08-E socket) with 6.2 mm mounting pitch — half the width of the G2R standard series without S (which uses the 5-pin or 8-pin P2RF-08 / P2RF-08-E socket, also slim).

Where the G2R-2-SND DC24V sits in the G2R family

The G2R family splits along several axes: pin count (8-pin DPDT vs 14-pin 4PDT), coil voltage (12 VDC, 24 VDC, 48 VDC, 100/110 VAC, 200/220 VAC), output current (5 A standard, 10 A H-series), terminal arrangement (N = NPN / Omron standard, I = IEC), features (LED, mechanical flag, diode, test button, sealed). The G2R-2-SND DC24V (this SKU) is the baseline 24 VDC coil DPDT 5 A plug-in relay with full features (LED + mechanical flag + diode). The 12 VDC coil sibling is the G2R-2-SND DC12V. The 100/110 VAC coil sibling is the G2R-2-SN AC100/110V.

Coil specifications, suppression diode, and switching transients

The 24 VDC coil draws 21.8 mA typical (28 mA max) at 24 VDC, with a coil resistance of 1,100 Ω. The must-operate voltage is 70 % of nominal (16.8 VDC); the must-release voltage is 15 % nominal (3.6 VDC); the maximum continuous voltage is 130 % (31.2 VDC) for 1 minute per IEC 61810. The built-in coil-suppression diode (across the coil terminals, reverse-biased during normal operation) clamps the back-EMF when the coil de-energizes — the diode forward-conducts the inductive kick before it can reach a level that damages surrounding transistors, PLC outputs, or contactors in the same panel.

Socket selection: P2RF-08-E (Push-In Plus) vs P2RFZ-08-E (screw)

The G2R-2-SND DC24V plugs into P2RF-08-E or P2RFZ-08-E sockets, both of which have the 8-pin M2.5 / M3.5 terminal arrangement matching the G2R's pinout. The P2RF-08-E is the Push-In Plus version — wires are inserted by hand and released with a screwdriver, no torque required, and stays tight under vibration. The P2RFZ-08-E is the legacy M3 screw terminal version — wires are clamped with a 0.4 N·m torque screw. Pick the P2RF-08-E for new installations (4× faster wiring, no retightening in vibration environments). Pick the P2RFZ-08-E for retrofit into existing panels with screw terminals, or for CE/UL tight-torque verification.

FAQ for G2R-2-SND DC24V

Does the G2R-2-SND DC24V have the coil-suppression diode inside?
Yes — the 'D' in the suffix 'SND' stands for Diode. The relay has a coil-suppression diode (a bidirectional Zener / TVS combination, clamped at approximately 27 V) reverse-biased across the coil terminals, designed to absorb the back-EMF that occurs when the coil de-energizes.
What's the difference between P2RF-08-E and P2RFZ-08-E sockets?
Both are 8-pin sockets for the G2R-2-SN family. The P2RFZ-08-E is the legacy M3-screw-terminal socket — wires are clamped by tightening 0.4 N·m torque screws; requires periodic retightening in high-vibration environments and is the recommended socket for CE/UL applications where torque verification is part of the panel commissioning.
Can the G2R-2-SND DC24V switch 230 VAC motor contactor coils?
Yes — this is one of the most common applications for the G2R-2-SN family. The 5 A contact rating covers 230 VAC at any typical motor contactor coil current (typically 10-50 VA, i.e., 50-200 mA coil current at 230 VAC, well within 5 A).
What does the mechanical flag indicator do?
The mechanical flag indicator (a white-and-black flip-bar visible through the clear acrylic case on the front face of the relay) shows the contact state mechanically — even with the panel powered off. When the coil is energized, the flag moves to the 'operated' position; when the coil is de-energized, it returns to the 'released' position.
