Omron Interface Relays — G2R & G6B
Two interface relay families for signal conditioning inside a control panel. G2R is a slim DPDT plug-in relay in the classic 22.5 mm socket format. G6B is a 4-pole independent terminal relay that mounts directly on a DIN rail or a panel without a separate base. Neither carries load current for motors — they switch signal level, and both take coil protection variants.
Lifecycle status
G6B is current with no end-of-life record; G2R is listed as discontinued in China but still active in Europe
Omron's China discontinuation database records the G2R series and G2R-2-SNI as ended 31 March 2023 with no replacement. However Omron's China CAD page still lists the full G2R-S catalogue including G2R-2-SND DC24, and major distributors list G2R-2-SND DC24(S) as Active with stock. G6B returns no discontinuation record at all.
What to fit instead: None published for G2R; the current G2R-S line is still in active Omron catalogues
Key specifications
- G2R-2-SND DC24(S): DPDT (2 Form C), 5 A at 250 VAC and 5 A at 30 VDC resistive, 380 VAC / 125 VDC maximum switching, 24 VDC coil at 21.6 mA and 0.53 W
- G2R coil operating range is 70 percent must-operate and 15 percent must-release, with a 110 percent maximum
- G2R suffix codes: S = plug-in terminals, N = LED coil indicator, D = built-in coil-surge diode, (S) = mechanical operation indicator and nameplate
- G6B-47BND: 4 Form A (4 independent SPST-NO) long-life circuit, 4 A at 250 VAC / 4 A at 30 VDC
- G6B-48 is the high-reliability circuit variant of the same 4 Form A arrangement
- G6B suffix codes: blank or F selects DIN-track or screw-only mounting, B = Phillips screw input terminals with 4 independent points, N = operation indicator LED, D = coil-surge diode
How to read a G2R or G6B relay
The number is the pole count. The letters are coil options — and one of them is widely misread.
| Element | G2R | G6B |
|---|---|---|
| Pole count | -2- = 2 poles, DPDT (2 Form C) | -4- = 4 poles, 4PST-NO; -47- and -48- are circuit variants, not contact counts |
| Body / terminals | S = plug-in | blank = DIN track or screw, F = screw only |
| Input terminals | Plug-in pins | B = Phillips screw, 4 independent points |
| Indicator | N = LED coil indicator | N = operation indicator LED |
| Coil suppression | D = built-in coil-surge diode | D = diode for coil surge |
| Extra | (S) = mechanical operation indicator and nameplate | — |
The single most common misreading on these families: G6B-47BND is NOT "4 form A and 7 form B". It is 4 Form A (four independent SPST normally-open), where 47 denotes the long-life circuit. The 4 Form A arrangement is the whole relay.
Where these parts get used
- Interposing a 24 VDC PLC output onto a legacy 250 VAC signal circuit using a G2R with a coil-surge diode
- Fan-out of one sensor output to several PLC inputs using a G6B's four independent contacts
- Coil noise suppression on a panel full of solenoids, where the D variants stop the interlock controller seeing false resets at switch-off
Which model do you need
- Choose the D variant wherever the relay coil sits next to contactor coils — it suppresses the back-EMF spike that can reset a PLC input.
- Choose G2R when you already have 22.5 mm sockets in the panel and want a drop-in replacement; choose G6B for new builds where DIN rail density matters.
- Check G2R availability with us before promising a long-term supply — Omron's own regional pages disagree about its status.
- Match coil voltage to your supply exactly: the DC24 variants need 24 VDC, and AC coil variants use a different code.

Frequently asked
What does G2R-2 mean?
Two poles, DPDT — two Form C changeover contacts. It is not two form A and two form B. The full G2R-2-SND DC24(S) is a 22.5 mm plug-in DPDT relay rated 5 A at 250 VAC with a 24 VDC coil, LED indicator, surge diode and a mechanical operation indicator.
Is G6B-47BND four form A plus seven form B contacts?
No. G6B-47BND is 4 Form A — four independent SPST normally-open contacts — where 47 is the code for the long-life circuit. The -48 variant is the high-reliability circuit with the same contact arrangement. Neither has seven contacts.
Is the G2R series discontinued?
Omron's sources conflict. Its China discontinuation database lists the G2R series as ended 31 March 2023 with no replacement, but Omron's China CAD page still carries the full G2R-S catalogue and major distributors list G2R-2-SND DC24(S) as active with stock. If you need a specific G2R, confirm with us before ordering.
What does the D suffix do on these relays?
It adds a built-in diode across the coil to suppress the back-EMF spike at switch-off. Without it, a relay switching a solenoid or contactor coil can couple enough noise back into the supply to reset a PLC input or drop a safety relay. Fit D variants anywhere the coil shares a supply with other inductive loads.
Do G2R and G6B sockets exist separately?
G2R is designed for a separate 22.5 mm plug-in base, which is normally ordered with the relay. G6B mounts directly on DIN rail or a panel with its own screw terminals, so no base is needed. They are not interchangeable — a G6B will not fit a G2R socket.
