Product Overview

The Omron NX-DA3203 is a 4-channel analog current-output unit for the NX-series modular I/O system. Each of the 4 outputs drives an independent 4-20 mA current loop to control proportional valves, variable-speed drives, chart recorders, or heater controllers. With a 1/8000 full-scale resolution and 250 us per-point conversion time, the unit handles most process loop update cycles and machine speed references without adding a step to the system update budget. It draws 1.80 W from the NX bus, with no separate 24 VDC loop supply. Pick the NX-DA3203 when a NJ / NX1P / NX102 controller needs 4 current-only outputs at standard resolution.

Where it fits in the NX-DA family

The NX-DA analog output family is split by channel count, signal type, and resolution. NX-DA2205 is the 2-point 4-20 mA model at 1/30000 resolution. NX-DA3203 is the 4-point 4-20 mA model at 1/8000 resolution. NX-DA2603 / NX-DA3603 are the 2 / 4-point voltage output siblings (-10 to +10 V). Pick the NX-DA3203 when the loads are 4-20 mA current loops at standard process resolution.

Using the NX-DA3203 with the right coupler

The NX-DA3203 is a slave I/O unit that connects to an NX-series CPU over the NX bus, or to a CJ PLC through an NX-EIC202 unit, or to any EtherCAT master through an NX-ECC201 / NX-ECC202 / NX-ECC203 EtherCAT coupler. Pick the EtherCAT coupler (NX-ECC201) for an NJ/NX1P/NX102 system, the NX-ECC202 for redundant ring topologies, or the NX-ECC203 for the slide-in NX-CIF series bus systems.

Before ordering

Confirm the load wiring is current-loop, not voltage - mixing 4-20 mA outputs with a device expecting 0-10 V will burn out the receiver. Check the loop load resistance: the unit can drive up to 600 ohm loops from a 24 VDC loop supply through to the receiving device. Wire shielded twisted pair to the spring-loaded push-in terminal block (max 1.5 mm^2 / AWG 16). Configure each channel in the Sysmac Studio I/O map with the correct scale factors before commissioning.

Best-Fit Applications

  • Sending drive speed references to a variable-frequency drive
  • Driving proportional hydraulic or pneumatic valves from an NX controller
  • Setpoint output to a remote temperature or humidity controller
  • Strip-chart or paperless recorder signal feed at the panel end
  • Process loop output on a packaging or batching machine skid

Buying Checklist

  • Confirm the loads accept 4-20 mA current loops, not 0-10 V voltage (use NX-DA3603 for voltage outputs).
  • Choose NX-DA2205 for the high-resolution 2-channel 4-20 mA body when a 4-channel slot is not needed.
  • Choose NX-DA2205 (high resolution) over the 4-channel DA3203 for low-channel applications.
  • Choose NX-DA2603 or NX-DA3603 when voltage output (-10 to +10 V) is required.
  • Verify the loop load resistance stays under 600 ohm from the 24 VDC loop supply.
  • Confirm the NX coupler slot: NX-DA3203 fits NX-ECC201 / 202 / 203 or NX-EIC202.

FAQ for NX-DA3203

What is the difference between NX-DA3203 and NX-DA3205?
Both are 4-point 4-20 mA current-output units for the NX series. The NX-DA3203 is the standard-resolution model (1/8000, +/- 0.3 percent FS, 250 us conversion, free-run refresh). The NX-DA3205 is the high-resolution sibling (1/30000, +/- 0.1 percent FS, 10 us per-point conversion, with selectable synchronous or free-run refresh). For servo or tension control, use the DA3205; for general process loops, use the DA3203.
Does the NX-DA3203 need an external 24 VDC loop supply?
The unit drives the current on its own - no separate loop supply is needed for the output stage. The device that receives the 4-20 mA signal must be powered from somewhere, but that supply is on the receiving side. The NX-DA3203 itself draws 1.80 W from the NX bus; it does not pull from a 24 VDC rail.
Which NX coupler or CPU does the NX-DA3203 require?
Use an NX-series CPU (NX102 / NX502 / NX701 / NX1P2) with a built-in NX bus, or pair the unit with one of the standard NX couplers - NX-ECC201 for a standard EtherCAT topology, NX-ECC202 for redundant ring, or NX-ECC203 for the slide-in NX-CIF bus adapter. For a CJ-series PLC, use the NX-EIC202 I/O interface unit to bridge from the CJ rack to the NX-DA3203.
