Product Overview
The Omron CP1L-EM30DT-D is the 30-I/O Ethernet-equipped compact PLC in the CP1L line. It has 18 DC inputs and 12 NPN-sinking transistor outputs on the base unit, a built-in 10/100 base-T Ethernet port for FINS/UDP, FINS/TCP, and socket service, a 10K-step program, and 24 VDC supply on the same removable terminal block. The DT suffix means NPN (sinking) -- the output pulls to common when active, which is the standard polarity for Omron's CP1W / CP2E expansion output cards and most Japanese PLC wiring.
Where the 4-axis HSC and 2-axis pulse output fit
The 4 high-speed counter inputs at 100 kHz single-phase (50 kHz differential) are enough for one or two incremental encoders on a conveyor or a feeder, plus a third / fourth position sensor on a cutoff or indexing station. The 2 pulse outputs at 100 kHz can drive two stepper-motor indexers, two variable-frequency drives in pulse-following mode, or one pulse + direction axis and one PWM output. The HSC and pulse-output counts are on the EM30DT-D, not on the smaller L14 or EL20 heads.
Ethernet vs USB-only siblings
Pick the CP1L-EM30DT-D (this SKU) when the PLC needs Ethernet for SCADA polling, remote HMI access, or NB-series HMI / NJ controller peer-to-peer. Pick the CP1L-M30DT-D instead when the cabinet has no Ethernet and the program is uploaded via the USB programming port. Pick the CP1L-EL20DT-D when the application only needs 20 I/O but still wants Ethernet -- the EL line saves cabinet space and budget.
Before ordering
Confirm the supply is 24 VDC -- for 100-240 VAC supply, order the matching CP1L-EM30DR-A (relay output) or CP1L-EM30DT-A (NPN sink). Confirm the load is NPN (sinking) -- for a PNP (sourcing) load, order CP1L-EM30DT1-D instead. Add up to 3 CP1W expansion units on the right side of the head for up to 160 total I/O; add a CP1W-CIF11 / CIF12-V1 option board for serial RS-232C / RS-485 if the field device speaks Modbus RTU or Host Link.

Best-Fit Applications
- Packaging line control with encoder feedback on a 30-I/O footprint
- Small conveyor system with two inverter pulse-following axes and a remote HMI
- Test fixture with 4-axis HSC for position verification and 2-axis pulse for feeder index
- OEM machine builder standardising on Ethernet for remote support and SCADA polling
- Material-handling cell with Modbus RTU on the option-board port plus Ethernet for HMI
Buying Checklist
- Pick CP1L-EM30DT-D for 30 I/O with built-in Ethernet, 4-axis 100 kHz HSC, and 2-axis 100 kHz pulse on 24 VDC supply.
- Pick CP1L-EM30DT1-D instead when the load is PNP (sourcing) instead of NPN (sinking).
- Pick CP1L-EM30DR-D instead when the load is a contactor coil, indicator lamp, or 250 VAC relay and you need dry contacts.
- Pick CP1L-M30DT-D instead when the PLC has no Ethernet and uploads over USB only (saves money).
- Pick CP1L-EL20DT-D when the application only needs 20 I/O and you want Ethernet in the smaller head.
- Add a CP1W-CIF11 (RS-232C) or CP1W-CIF12-V1 (RS-422/485) option board for Modbus RTU / Host Link serial port.
