The E3Z-D81 is Omron's 100 mm diffuse-reflective photoelectric sensor in the compact 20x11x31 mm cuboid body — the PNP-output counterpart to the E3Z-D82 (1 m, PNP, already done) and the larger-range companion to the E3Z-D61 (100 mm NPN, NOT in our catalog). The 100 mm sensing distance is the workhorse class for short-range presence detection on conveyors, parts feeders, small-object counting, and end-of-stroke confirmation on packaging machines. The PNP output (sources current to the load) makes this SKU the right pick for PNP-input PLCs and European-style control panels — CJ1W-ID211 (already done) with the COM terminal wired to 0V, NX-ID5442 (NOT in catalog), or any PNP-input sensor junction box.

Spec correction vs old DB

The old DB title for E3Z-D81 read '500mm NPN M8 Connector' — this is incorrect. The E3Z-D81 per Omron's official datasheet is 100 mm diffuse-reflective, PNP output, pre-wired 2 m cable. Diffuse-reflective sensing principle and limitations

Diffuse-reflective sensors work by emitting light (infrared 860 nm in the E3Z-D81) from the sensor's LED, illuminating the target, and detecting the light that reflects back to the sensor's photodiode receiver (which is co-located with the emitter in the same housing).
