The E3Z-D81 is a diffuse-reflective sensor with an infrared 860 nm LED light source. It works best on matte white or light-colored targets (rated 100 mm for white paper 100x100 mm at 90% reflectivity). For dark, transparent, or shiny targets, the effective range is significantly reduced: Matte black paper (~10% reflectivity): 30-50 mm effective range. Shiny metal (specular reflection): 60-80 mm but unreliable due to the angle-dependence of specular reflection.
Is the E3Z-D81 waterproof?
The E3Z-D81 is IP67 rated per IEC 60529, which means it's dust-tight and can withstand temporary water immersion (typically 1 m depth for 30 minutes).
