Product Overview

The NB3Q-TW00B is Omron's smallest NB-series HMI — a 3.5-inch TFT color touchscreen (320 x 240 pixels, 65,536 colors) that talks to a PLC over RS-232C or RS-422/485 serial only. It fits where panel space is tight and Ethernet isn't required: small packaging machines, lab / test stands, conveyor controllers, or any CJ1M / CJ2M / CP1L system where the only network is serial Host Link or Modbus RTU. Programming is done with NB-Designer (free Windows software).

When to pick this vs the other NB-series 3.5-inch and 5.7-inch HMIs

Pick NB3Q-TW00B (this SKU) when the panel cutout is small and you only need serial — the value-tier pick. Pick NB3Q-TW01B (already done) when you also need Ethernet (for NJ / NX controllers) or a USB Host port (for USB memory stick recipe transfer). Pick NB5Q-TW00B-V1 for a 5.7-inch screen on serial, or NB5Q-TW01B-V1 for 5.7-inch with Ethernet. Pick NB7W-TW01B-V1 for a 7-inch screen with Ethernet and USB Host.

Before ordering

The single COM port supports RS-232C, RS-422A, and RS-485 — selected by a DIP switch on the rear of the unit. Only one protocol is active at a time, so the HMI talks to one serial network (typically a single PLC). Project transfer from PC to HMI is via USB mini-B cable. Confirm your PLC protocol (Host Link for CP / CJ, FINS serial for CJ2, Modbus RTU for non-Omron PLCs) and set the COM port accordingly before commissioning.

FAQ for NB3Q-TW00B

What's the difference between NB3Q-TW00B and NB3Q-TW01B?
Same 3.5" screen and same NB-Designer software. TW00B (this SKU) is serial-only (RS-232C / RS-422 / RS-485 on one COM port) with USB mini-B for programming. TW01B (already done) adds an Ethernet port (for FINS / Host Link with NJ / NX controllers) and a USB Host port (for USB memory stick recipe transfer).
How do I connect the NB3Q-TW00B to a CJ2M-CPU11 or CJ2M-CPU12?
Connect the NB3Q's COM1 (DB9 female) to the CJ2M's built-in RS-232C port (DB9 female) using a DB9 cross-over / null-modem cable — Omron's XW2Z-200K (2 m) or XW2Z-500K (5 m) are pre-wired for this. Set the NB3Q's rear DIP switch to RS-232C, select Host Link in NB-Designer, and match the PLC unit number (default 0) and baud rate (default 9600).
Can the NB3Q-TW00B communicate with NJ-series controllers?
Only over serial — this SKU has no Ethernet port. To talk to NJ / NX controllers over Ethernet (FINS / EtherNet/IP), use the NB3Q-TW01B (already done) or any larger NB HMI with Ethernet. The NB3Q-TW00B still works with CJ-series CPUs (CJ1M, CJ2M, CJ2H) over serial Host Link, plus Modbus RTU and other serial protocols for non-Omron PLCs.
How do I transfer a project from NB-Designer to the HMI?
Connect a USB mini-B cable (standard USB-A to mini-B, like a digital camera) between your PC and the NB3Q's rear USB port. Build the project in NB-Designer, then use Transfer > Download to HMI. The NB3Q appears as a USB mass-storage device. For Ethernet-enabled HMIs, projects can also transfer over Ethernet.
Is the NB3Q-TW00B discontinued?
No — it's in active production as of 2024 and supported through at least 2030. The NB3Q-TW00B-V1 (V1 hardware revision) is the current variant with identical functionality. For new installations, plan to migrate to the V1 version or to NB3Q-TW01B-V1 if Ethernet is required.
