Product Overview

The Omron NB5Q-TW00B is the no-Ethernet entry of the NB-series 5-inch HMI line. It carries a 5.6-inch TFT color LCD at 320 x 240 QVGA with 65 536 colours, 128 MB of project memory, and the same NB-Designer programming software used across the rest of the NB family. The 00 in the code means no Ethernet port and no USB host - communication is RS-232C serial and USB slave only. Pick the NB5Q-TW00B when the HMI sits at the machine and talks to one PLC over a serial cable, with no network drop needed.

Where the TW00B fits in the NB family

The NB-series 5-inch HMI comes in three versions. TW00B has RS-232C plus USB slave and no Ethernet - the lowest cost. TW01B adds an Ethernet port and USB host so a USB stick can upload projects or log data without a PC. TW00B-V1 is the current model code for the same TW00B specification. All three use the same NB-Designer software and project format, so a screen moves freely between them. For most small machine builds that just need a screen to view status and change setpoints, the TW00B is enough.

Why 5 inches and TFT

The 5-inch class is the smallest size where TFT color makes a visible difference over the older STN monochrome screens. The NB5Q TFT shows recipes, alarms, and trend graphs in 65 536 colours with a wide viewing angle, so the operator can read the screen from the side of the machine without losing contrast. Below 5 inches, the NB3Q-TW00B at 3.5 inches; above, the NB7W-TW01B at 7 inches and the NB10W-TW01B at 10 inches. The 5-inch size fits between the NB3Q for tight panels and the NB7W when the operator needs a bigger keypad or alarm area.

Before ordering

Confirm the controller has an RS-232C serial port - most Omron CP1 / CJ / NJ CPUs use RS-232C for NB-Designer screen transfer. Wire the NB5Q-TW00B to the same 24 VDC rail as the PLC and confirm a USB cable for screen upload. If Ethernet is needed for remote monitoring or multi-drop networks, step up to the NB5Q-TW01B.

  • Black housing, 184 x 142 mm panel cutout
  • CE / UL / KC approvals, 0 to 50 degC operating
  • Compatible with CP1 / CJ / NJ / NX-series PLCs via Host Link / FINS / Modbus RTU
  • SKU: NB5Q-TW00B
  • Series: NB-series programmable terminal (PT / HMI)
  • Voltage: 24 VDC

Best-Fit Applications

  • Local operator panel on a small packaging machine that talks to a CP1L or CP2E PLC over RS-232C.
  • Status display and recipe selector on a small filling or labelling machine that has no factory network.
  • Standalone HMI for a CP1E-N30 with no Ethernet - the NB5Q-TW00B uses the same serial cable.
  • Replacement for an older NS5 or NT31-series HMI in a retrofit, with the same NB-Designer project tools.
  • Compact visualisation where the NB3Q is too small and a 7-inch panel is too big.

Buying Checklist

  • Choose NB5Q-TW01B-V1 when the HMI needs Ethernet or a USB host port for memory-stick project upload.
  • Choose NB3Q-TW00B when 5 inches is too big for the panel - the 3.5-inch sibling uses the same NB-Designer software.
  • Choose NB7W-TW01B when the operator needs a 7-inch screen for trend graphs or larger buttons.
  • Confirm the PLC has an RS-232C port - most Omron CP-series CPUs do, but CP1L-L (low-end) does not.
  • Allow for the NB-Designer software download on a PC - the HMI ships with NB-Designer on USB stick in the box.

FAQ for NB5Q-TW00B

What is the difference between NB5Q-TW00B and NB5Q-TW01B?
Both are 5.6-inch QVGA TFT color HMIs with the same 128 MB memory and NB-Designer project tools. The TW00B has RS-232C serial and USB slave only - no Ethernet, no USB host. The TW01B-V1 adds an Ethernet port and a USB host port so a USB stick can upload projects without a PC. Pick TW00B when the HMI sits at the machine and talks to one PLC over a serial cable. Pick TW01B-V1 for Ethernet or USB memory-stick data logging.
Which Omron PLCs work with the NB5Q-TW00B?
Any Omron PLC with an RS-232C serial port - CP1E, CP1L, CP1H, CP2E, CP2E-N, CJ1, CJ2, and NJ series. Use Host Link (SYSWAY) for the older CP1-series, FINS for CJ / NJ, or Modbus RTU for non-Omron PLCs. The NB5Q-TW00B does not connect over Ethernet, so an NJ-series PLC needs a CJ1W-SCU21-V1 serial option board or an NB5Q-TW01B HMI instead.
Can I upload a project to the NB5Q-TW00B over USB?
Only via the USB slave port with a USB cable connected to a PC running NB-Designer - the TW00B does not have a USB host port. To upload projects from a USB memory stick without a PC, step up to the NB5Q-TW01B which adds a USB host port on the side of the unit.
