Product Overview

The NB5Q-TW01B-V1 is the 5.6-inch black-bezel variant of Omron's NB-V1-series programmable terminal (PT, 'HMI'), with a 320×234-pixel TFT color LCD (65,536 colors, 16-bit) and the connectivity option of built-in 10/100 Mbps Ethernet plus two USB ports (one USB Host for USB flash drive / mouse / keyboard; one USB device for programming). The 'TW01B' suffix decodes as: TW = TFT color LCD + Ethernet + USB Host; 01 = with Ethernet; B = black bezel. The V1 suffix indicates the V1 hardware revision (released circa 2016) which added the USB Host port and increased internal flash memory to 128 MB over the V0's 32 MB.

Where the NB5Q-TW01B-V1 sits in the NB family

The NB family splits along three axes: screen size (3.5" NB3Q, 5.6" NB5Q, 7" NB7W, 10.1" NB10W), Ethernet presence (00 = no Ethernet, 01 = with Ethernet), and bezel (TW00B/TW01B = black bezel; NW00B = ivory / beige bezel). The NB3Q is the 3.5-inch 320×240 QVGA compact model; the NB5Q (this SKU) is the 5.6-inch 320×234 entry-level model; the NB7W is the 7-inch 800×480 WVGA mid-size; the NB10W is the 10.1-inch 800×480 large-format. All four sizes share the same NB-Designer programming environment, the same V1 firmware revision hardware, the same Modbus TCP / RTU / Host Link connectivity.

NB5Q hardware specifications vs DB record (5.6 inch 320×234 correcting 5.7" QVGA)

The DB title for this SKU was '5.7 inch QVGA' which is wrong — the NB5Q is a 5.6-inch LCD with 320 × 234 pixel resolution (NOT QVGA which is 320×240). The 5.6" size is the diagonal across the display panel's active area; the 320×234 resolution is the panel's pixel matrix. The earlier DB spec confused the panel's overall bezel size (5.7 inch = the visible cutout) with the panel's actual display dimensions. This correction is per the Omron NB-series datasheet.

Programming, NB-Designer, and project lifecycle

Programming the NB5Q-TW01B-V1 is done in NB-Designer (current version 1.6.7, with multi-language interface). NB-Designer is Omron's HMI configuration tool for all NB-series PTs — supports tag database (symbolic PLC connection), alarm configuration, recipe editing, trend display, ladder logic screens, multi-language switching, and macro actions. Projects are downloaded to the NB via USB (Type-B mini-USB on the rear face) or via Ethernet (Modbus TCP). The NB's internal 128 MB flash holds the project plus runtime data; project size is typically 5-30 MB for most applications.

FAQ for NB5Q-TW01B-V1

Is the NB5Q-TW01B-V1 still in production?
No — the entire NB-series (NB3Q, NB5Q, NB7W, NB10W) was discontinued by Omron effective March 31, 2025. The recommended replacement is the NA5-series (Sysmac-family HMI): NA5-7W001B-V1 (7-inch 800×480) is the standard NB5Q / NB7W replacement, NA5-9W001B-V1 (9-inch 800×480) is the NB10W replacement. NB-series units remain available through distribution channels for spare-parts replenishment — typical spare-stock availability is 3-5 years after the discontinuation date.
What is the difference between NB5Q and NB7W?
Screen size and resolution: NB5Q (this SKU) is 5.6-inch 320 × 234 pixels (NOT QVGA — the panel has 320 × 234 not 320 × 240); NB7W is 7.0-inch 800 × 480 pixels (WVGA). The NB7W has ~ 4× the resolution — useful for projects with detailed trend lines, multilingual text, or graphical process mimicry.
Can the NB5Q connect to NJ / NX Machine Controllers?
Yes — the NB5Q-TW01B-V1 supports EtherNet/IP slave mode plus FINS UDP, both of which work as a slave-side protocol for NJ / NX Machine Controllers. In a typical configuration, the NJ or NX controller is the EtherNet/IP master (it's the controller, the HMI is a slave device) — the NB5Q serves as an HMI display and operator input device.
What is the maximum project file size?
The NB5Q-TW01B-V1 has 128 MB internal flash memory (V1 hardware — V0 was 32 MB). Typical NB-Designer projects range from 5 MB (small mixed-IO project) to 30 MB (large multi-screen machine with extensive alarms, recipes, and trend displays), leaving 100+ MB for runtime data (trend / alarm / recipe tables). For projects that exceed the 128 MB flash, the NB can also load project data from USB flash drive (only the boot block resides in flash).
