Product Overview

The NX-PD1000 is an additional unit power supply for the NX-series modular I/O system. It accepts 24 VDC input (allowable 20.4 to 28.8 VDC) and provides up to 10 W of extra NX-Bus unit power to downstream NX Units when the host EtherCAT Coupler (NX-ECC201, NX-ECC202, or NX-ECC203) has reached its unit-power budget. The unit is only 12 mm wide — the same footprint as a single NX I/O Unit — and uses the same screwless push-in terminal block as the rest of the NX family (8 terminals: 2 × IOV/V+, 2 × IOG/V−, 2 × FG, plus a duplicate pair for through-wiring).

Why a separate NX-PD1000 when the coupler already has power

Every NX EtherCAT Coupler supplies two separate 24 VDC power rails to the downstream NX Units: the NX-Bus unit power (which powers the internal logic of each NX Unit, the EtherCAT slave communication, and the unit microcontroller) and the I/O power (which drives the field side of digital inputs, digital outputs, analog signals, etc.). The coupler's unit-power capacity is limited — the NX-ECC201 supplies about 10 W, the NX-ECC202 about 10 W, and the NX-ECC203 about 16 W — and that budget has to cover every NX Unit in the slice.

NX-PD1000 vs NX-PF0630 vs NX-PF0730 — what's actually different

The NX-series System Unit family has three 'additional power' modules and they are not interchangeable. NX-PD1000 (this SKU) adds unit power to the NX-Bus. NX-PF0630 adds I/O power — it accepts 5 to 24 VDC and feeds up to 4 A of I/O power to the field side of the downstream NX Units. NX-PF0730 does the same I/O power injection but at 10 A maximum current. The rule of thumb: if your NX-IO Units are randomly dropping off the network with 'unit power supply error' faults, you need an NX-PD1000 (unit-power problem).

Installation and current budget calculation

The NX-PD1000 installs like any other NX Unit: line up the alignment markers on the side of the unit with the previously installed unit, press the orange locking slider toward the back of the unit to lock it to the bus, and slide on the next NX Unit. Connect 24 VDC to the input terminals (IOV/V+ and IOG/V−), then run a Sysmac Studio I/O Map build to confirm the NX-PD1000 reports 'Unit power supply normal' on the diagnostics tab. For current budgeting: each downstream NX Unit's unit-power draw is listed in the NX Unit's datasheet under 'Current consumption (Unit power supply)'.

FAQ for NX-PD1000

When do I need an NX-PD1000?
You need an NX-PD1000 when your NX EtherCAT slice has more NX Units than the coupler's NX-Bus unit-power budget can supply. Symptoms in Sysmac Studio are NX Units showing 'Unit power supply error' in the Coupler/Unit diagnostics tab, Units randomly appearing and disappearing from the I/O Map, or NX Units that fail to register at all when you try to add them to the slice.
What is the difference between NX-PD1000, NX-PF0630, and NX-PF0730?
Three different power-injection functions. NX-PD1000 (this SKU) injects NX-Bus unit power — it powers the internal logic, EtherCAT communication, and microcontrollers of the downstream NX Units. NX-PF0630 injects I/O power — it powers the field side of digital inputs, digital outputs, analog signals, and encoder interfaces — at up to 4 A. NX-PF0730 does the same I/O power injection at up to 10 A.
Can the NX-PD1000 be used with an NX102 or NX502 CPU instead of an EtherCAT Coupler?
Technically yes — the NX-PD1000 will install in any NX slice and inject unit power — but it is unnecessary in a CPU-based slice. The NX102, NX502, and NX1P2 CPU units already supply unit power themselves; their limitation is on the I/O power side, which is why NX-PF0630 and NX-PF0730 are commonly added to CPU-based slices but NX-PD1000 is rarely needed. The NX-PD1000 is essentially an EtherCAT-Coupler-slice solution for the unit-power-exhaustion problem.
Does the NX-PD1000 need a separate 24 VDC supply?
Yes — the NX-PD1000 accepts 24 VDC input on its screwless push-in terminal block (IOV/V+ and IOG/V−) and does not derive its input from the NX-Bus. In practice you wire it to the same cabinet 24 VDC bus that powers the EtherCAT Coupler (typically an S8VK-G12024 or S8VS-12024), with its own fuse or branch breaker so you can isolate it for maintenance. The FG terminals should be grounded at one end of the cabinet ground bus to ensure EMC compliance.
