Product Overview

The Omron R7D-BP02HH-Z is a 200 W SmartStep 2 servo drive in the R7D-BP family. It accepts single-phase 200-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, draws 1.9 A rms, and outputs 3-phase 92 V variable-frequency drive power (0-333.3 Hz) at 1.6 A rms continuous. The control side is pulse-train + direction or quadrature, fed from any PLC high-speed counter or pulse-output module — a CJ1M-CPU21 / CJ2M-CPU35, CP1H-X40D[]-D, or CP2E pulse-output card will all drive it. Pair the drive with the R88M-G20030H 200 V 3000 rpm 200 W cylindrical servo motor for the standard SmartStep 2 bundle; the same drive also works with the brake variant R88M-G20030H-B[] or the R88M-G20030H-S2 if the motor comes with a key and tap.

The R7D-BP02HH-Z is the small-power single-phase 200 V entry into the SmartStep 2 line. The 200 V three-phase sibling is the R7D-BP02H. One step up is the 400 W single-phase R7D-BP04H, used where the load (extrusion screws, larger index tables, heavier conveyors) overshoots the 200 W motor's continuous torque. Both runs come in the same panel-mount housing with the same CN1 encoder, CN2 I/O DB-15, CN3A / CN3B / CN4 terminal blocks, and PE ground screw.

Tuning and setup

SmartStep 2 is auto-tuning heavy: connect the motor, fire up the drive, and the on-board adaptive filter compensates for inertia and load within seconds. Manual tuning of loop gains is possible through the console (Pn parameters) but rarely needed beyond damping out mechanical resonance on belt drives. The drive reads the standard Omron motor encoder over the CN1 connector and reports position, speed, and torque through the DB-15 I/O port. Fieldbus (EtherCAT / MECHATROLINK) is NOT on this SKU — for fieldbus servo control, step up to the Accurax G5 (R88D-KN[]) or 1S (R88D-1SN[]) lines.

Before ordering

The R7D-BP02HH-Z is single-phase 200 VAC — DO NOT feed it from a 3-phase 200 VAC line (move to R7D-BP02H for that). Verify the motor you pair is a 200 V SmartStep 2 (R88M-G[]) at 200 W — a 400 W motor will hit drive overload on every cycle. Use shielded cable for pulse-train wiring, and clamp the shield at the drive end only. Plan for panel space: each drive is 30 mm wide and pushes heat from the top, so leave 30 mm above and below for airflow.

Key Features

  • SmartStep 2-series pulse-input servo drive
  • 200 W class, pairs with R88M-G20030H motor
  • Single-phase 200-240 VAC input, 1.9 A rms
  • 3-phase 92 V output, 1.6 A continuous / 7.5 A peak
  • Encoder feedback 2500 P/r incremental
  • DB-15 I/O for step / direction / quadrature / alarm
  • Auto-tuning on power-on, no PC required
  • On-board Pn parameter console, IP10 panel-mount housing
  • SKU: R7D-BP02HH-Z
  • Series: R7D-BP02HH-Z
  • Voltage: 200-240 VAC
  • I/O: 200 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Pulse-train servo on a small CJ1M-CPU21 / CJ2M index-table application
  • Simple point-to-point positioning on small packaging machines
  • Conveyor synchronisation that needs a SmartStep 2 servo swap for an older analog drive
  • Belt-drive slider axis on a small CNC tool-change mechanism
  • Fieldbus-free retrofit where the controller only outputs pulses

Buying Checklist

  • Choose R7D-BP02HH-Z for 200 W single-phase 200 V pulse-train servo control.
  • Pick R7D-BP04H if you need the 400 W version of the same drive.
  • Pick R7D-BP02H for the 3-phase 200 V version when the cabinet has 3-phase mains.
  • Step up to R88D-KN02H-ECT-Z if your controller speaks EtherCAT instead of pulses.
  • Pair with the R88M-G20030H motor for a complete 200 W SmartStep 2 bundle.
  • Allow for 30 mm panel width and 30 mm of top/bottom airflow clearance.

FAQ for R7D-BP02HH-Z

Can the R7D-BP02HH-Z run on 3-phase 200 VAC?
Officially no. The R7D-BP02HH-Z is rated for single-phase 200-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz only. If your cabinet has 3-phase 200 VAC mains, move up to the R7D-BP02H which is rated for single or 3-phase. Running the HH drive on all three phases without one line is OK for some users as a workaround, but the rating plate will not support the warranty.
Which motor pairs with the R7D-BP02HH-Z?
The 200 V 200 W cylindrical SmartStep 2 motor — R88M-G20030H (standard), R88M-G20030H-B (with brake), or R88M-G20030H-S2 (straight shaft with key and tap). Do not pair the 200 W drive with a 400 W motor (R88M-G40030H); the drive will trip the overload every acceleration.
Does the R7D-BP02HH-Z speak EtherCAT or MECHATROLINK?
No. The BP family is pulse-train control only. For EtherCAT, step up to the Accurax G5 (R88D-KN[]) drive family or the 1S family (R88D-1SN[]). For MECHATROLINK-II, the R88D-KN[] family supports the right option card.
What does the -Z suffix mean on the R7D-BP02HH-Z?
The -Z is a connector / accessory kit suffix used in some Omron catalog and distributor listings. The bare drive, the encoder pigtail wiring, and the motor power connector are all the same as the standard R7D-BP02HH. Treat -Z as a logistics code unless your order sheet says otherwise.
