Omron NA Series Programmable Terminals — NA5 7W / 9W / 12W / 15W

The NA series is Omron's HMI platform for Sysmac controllers. Every NA shares one integrated Sysmac Studio project with the NJ, NX and NY controllers, so controller variables auto-map to screen objects. All units run on 24 VDC, and the B and S letters are bezel colours — black and silver — not AC and DC inputs.

Lifecycle status

Production of the NA5-□□W□□□□-V1 ended 30 September 2026 — the -V2 is the current line

Omron's European product pages now record the -V1 line as discontinued with production ended on 30 September 2026, and the -V2 as the live range. There is a genuine conflict in Omron's own material here: the China discontinuation database still lists a planned order cutoff of end-September 2027 for the -V1, while the Europe and UK product pages state production has ended. The regional product pages reflect actual status and have been updated after the event, so we treat -V1 as end-of-life. -V2 is lighter than -V1 while keeping 16,770k colours and resistive touch for gloved operation.

What to fit instead: The same model on the -V2 hardware revision, e.g. NA5-7W001B-V2 for NA5-7W001B-V1

Key specifications

How to read an NA5 model number

Size, then resolution class, then bezel colour, then hardware revision.

Element Meaning Example
NA5 NA series, Sysmac Studio terminal 5th-generation NA
7W / 9W / 12W / 15W Screen size, W = widescreen 16:10 7.0", 9.0", 12.1", 15.4 inch
001 Resolution class, 800 x 480 Used on 7W and 9W
101 Resolution class, 1280 x 800 Used on 12W and 15W
B Black frame Bezel colour, not a power input
S Silver frame Bezel colour, not a power input
-V1 / -V2 Hardware revision V1 production ended 30 Sep 2026; V2 is current
-V1-P Plastic-case variant A real hardware difference from the standard metal case

The commonest misreading on this family is B and S as AC versus DC input. Both are bezel colours and every NA is 24 VDC — there is no AC-input variant. The genuine case variant is the separate -P suffix for a plastic housing.

Which legacy Omron terminal each NA replaces

Discontinued model End of production Omron-designated replacement
NT631C-ST153B-V3 (black) 30 Sep 2022 NA5-12W101B-V1
NT631C-ST153-EV3 (ivory) 30 Sep 2022 NA5-12W101S-V1
NT31 (older generation) per model NA5-7W001B/S-V1
NV3W / NV4W programmable terminals 2023 NA5-7W and NA5-9W -V1
NS5 / NS8 / NS10 / NS12 / NS15 April 2022 NA5-7W / 9W / 12W / 15W -V1 (see the NS page)
NA5-7W001B/S, NA5-9W001B/S (non-V1) 31 Jan 2021 the same model on -V1
NA5-12W101B/S, NA5-15W101B/S (non-V1) 30 Jun 2021 the same model on -V1

Bezel colour carries through the replacement: a black NT631C maps to the black NA (B) and an ivory NT631C to the silver NA (S). The EV suffix on the NT631C denotes Ethernet and does not change which NA colour you take.

Programmability and what changes when you move to NA

NA is programmed in Sysmac Studio, in either Standard Edition or the HMI Edition (SYSMAC-HE001L, NA-only, one licence). The project is integrated with the controller: controller variables are mapped to HMI objects automatically rather than addressed through a separate tag table. NA5 units need Sysmac Studio Ver. 1.40 or later and NA system version 1.10 or later. Note that coming from an NB panel this is a different tool entirely — NB runs NB-Designer, and an NB project will not open in Sysmac Studio.

Frequently asked

Is the NA5-7W001B-V1 still in production?

No. Production of the NA5-□□W□□□□-V1 line ended on 30 September 2026, according to Omron's European and UK product pages, which now record these models as discontinued. Note that Omron's China database still shows a planned order cutoff of end-September 2027 — the two Omron sources disagree, and we have gone with the one that reflects actual status. The successor is the same model on -V2, such as NA5-7W001B-V2.

What is the difference between NA5 B and S variants?

Bezel colour: B is a black frame and S is a silver frame. They are not AC and DC power variants — every NA in this family runs on 24 VDC, and there is no AC-input version. The genuine hardware variant is the separate -P suffix, which denotes a plastic case rather than the standard metal one.

What resolution is the NA5-12W?

1280 x 800. The 800 x 480 figure that appears in some scraped tables belongs to the 7W and 9W. The 001 and 101 in the model number encode this: 001 is 800 x 480 and 101 is 1280 x 800.

Does the NA have RS-422 or RS-485?

Neither. Every NA model has exactly one RS-232C port (D-sub 9 female, 15 m maximum). Omron labels that port and the expansion-unit connector as being for future expansion. If your machine relies on RS-422 or RS-485, an NA is the wrong platform.

What NA model replaces an NT631C?

Omron's discontinuation database maps the black NT631C-ST153B-V3 and NT631C-ST153B-EV3 to the NA5-12W101B-V1, and the ivory NT631C-ST153-V3 and NT631C-ST153-EV3 to the NA5-12W101S-V1. All four ended on 30 September 2022. The EV suffix denotes Ethernet and does not change the bezel colour you should take.

What software programs the NA series?

Sysmac Studio, in either Standard Edition or the HMI Edition (SYSMAC-HE001L), which is NA-only and sold as a single licence. NA5 units require Sysmac Studio Ver. 1.40 or later and NA system version 1.10 or later. One integrated project covers the terminal and the NJ, NX or NY controller, with variables auto-mapped.
