Omron Power Supplies — S8VK, S8VS & S8FS
Three DIN-rail switching supply families: S8VK is the current general-purpose line, S8VS is its predecessor with built-in run-time and maintenance monitoring, and S8FS covers lower wattages with different DC input ranges. The single most important thing to get right is that the digits in S8VK and S8VS model numbers are WATTS, not amperes.
Lifecycle status
S8VK and S8FS are current; several S8VS variants are end-of-life
S8VK has no end-of-production record and is current across all Omron regional sites. S8VS base models were discontinued in 2014 under notice SD-076, replaced by S8VK — but the S8VS -A and -AP monitoring variants remained in production, and Omron's current Chinese lineup still lists S8VS-06024 and S8VS-12024, so the status of those two specific models is genuinely unclear from Omron's own published material. S8FS-C and S8FS-G are current.
What to fit instead: S8VK replaces the discontinued S8VS base models; -A and -AP monitor variants were still listed
Key specifications
- S8VK digits are watts: 060 = 60 W, 120 = 120 W, 240 = 240 W, with 24 meaning 24 VDC output. S8VK-G12024 is 120 W at 5 A, not 12 A
- S8VK-C is the lite line with no power boost; S8VK-G is the pro line with a 120 percent boost (G12024 gives 6 A peak for 10 s)
- All S8VK accept 100–240 VAC rated, with an allowable 85–264 VAC or 90–350 VDC input
- S8VS model letters: A is a maintenance-forecast monitor, AP adds a sourcing (PNP) alarm output, B is a total run-time monitor and BP adds an undervoltage alarm
- S8VS-01505 is rated 10 W despite the 15 in its model number — Omron states the actual capacity in a footnote
- S8FS: C means cover with direct mounting, CD means cover with DIN-rail mounting, J means terminal block facing forward. It is a plain supply, not a DC UPS
- The S8FS-C and S8FS-G lines have different DC input ranges: C accepts 248–373 VDC, G accepts 80–370 VDC
How to read a power supply model number
Three digits, watts. Everything else is mounting, monitoring and output voltage.
| Element | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| S8VK-G-12024 | Pro line, 120 W, 24 VDC output (5 A) | 120 is watts, not amps |
| S8VK-C-06024 | Lite line, 60 W, 24 VDC output (2.5 A) | C has no power boost |
| S8VS-01505 | 15 W class, 5 VDC output — actual capacity 10 W | Omron footnote |
| S8VS-12024AP | 120 W, 24 VDC, indication monitor + PNP alarm output | AP = monitor plus alarm |
| S8FS-G15024CD | 150 W, 24 VDC, cover with DIN-rail mounting | CD = DIN rail, not DC backup |
| S8FS-C10024J | 100 W, 24 VDC 4.5 A, terminal block facing forward | J = terminal orientation |
Output current follows from watts and voltage: 60 W / 24 V = 2.5 A, 120 W / 24 V = 5 A, 240 W / 24 V = 10 A, 480 W / 24 V = 20 A.
Where these parts get used
- Control panel supplying an NJ or NX cell where the S8VK-G boost covers inrush on an NX bus and multiple I/O units
- Legacy panel refresh where an S8VS monitor model needs replacing and the run-time data is being used for predictive maintenance
- Machine builders shipping panels to regions with unreliable AC, where the 90–350 VDC allowable input lets the supply ride a DC bus or backup battery
Which model do you need
- Choose S8VK-C for a steady 24 VDC rail with no inrush events, and S8VK-G when servos, NX buses or solenoids cause inrush that needs the 120 percent boost.
- Size on watts, not amps — S8VK-G12024 is 120 W and delivers 5 A, not 12 A.
- If you are replacing an S8VS and use its run-time or maintenance monitoring, note that S8VK does not carry the monitoring functions; the -A and -AP S8VS variants did.
- Check the DC input range before using the supply on a DC bus — S8FS-C and S8FS-G differ (248–373 VDC versus 80–370 VDC).

Frequently asked
Is S8VK-G12024 a 120 W or a 12 A supply?
120 W. The three digits in an S8VK model number are the output wattage, and the final 24 is the output voltage in VDC. S8VK-G12024 is a 120 W supply delivering 5 A continuous, with a 6 A peak for 10 seconds on the 120 percent power boost.
What is the difference between S8VK-G and S8VK-C?
G is the pro line and C is the lite line. G adds a 120 percent power boost for 10 seconds (S8VK-G12024 reaches 6 A against 5 A continuous), runs to higher ambient temperatures with no derating, and carries a five-year warranty against three years for C. G also uses dual DC output terminals.
Can an S8VK supply run on DC input?
Yes. Rated input is 100–240 VAC, and the allowable range includes 90–350 VDC, so it can ride a DC bus or a backup battery for short-term ride-through. The regulated 24 VDC output is unchanged.
Are the S8VS power supplies still available?
It depends on the variant. The S8VS base models were discontinued with a June 2014 order cutoff and replaced by S8VK, but the -A and -AP monitoring variants remained in production and Omron's current Chinese lineup still lists S8VS-06024 and S8VS-12024. If you need a specific S8VS, confirm with us before ordering.
Is S8FS a power supply with battery backup?
No. S8FS is a conventional DIN-rail switching power supply. The CD suffix means cover with DIN-rail mounting and J means the terminal block faces forward — neither indicates a UPS or backup function. If you need ride-through, use an S8VK or S8VS on a DC bus, or a dedicated UPS unit.
What does the 15 mean in S8VS-01505?
It marks the wattage class, but Omron states the actual usable capacity as 10 W in a footnote to the ordering table. For anything above about 5 W of load, size on the published output current (2.0 A at 5 V) rather than the model number.
