Omron NS Series Operator Terminals — NS5, NS8, NS10, NS12, NS15
The NS series covers operator terminals from 5.7 to 15 inch and was programmed in CX-Designer. Omron discontinued the whole range in April 2022 and published an NS-to-NA replacement guide. These panels remain in service on older machines, so stock still matters — but every part here is end-of-life, and we will say so before you order.
Lifecycle status
Discontinued by Omron in April 2022 — superseded by the NA series
Omron's own regional pages carry a "Discontinued On Apr. 2022" banner on the NS family, and the China site marks it 2022/02 production terminated, labelling the family page as a pre-EOL archival reference. The NS-Runtime licences (NS-NSRCL1/3/10) were separately discontinued on 30 June 2025, replaced by the NA-RTLD series. Omron published a dedicated NS-to-NA Replacement Guide, which is the authoritative mapping we use below.
What to fit instead: NA series — see the NS-to-NA mapping table on this page
Key specifications
- Five screen sizes: NS5 at 5.7 inch, NS8 at 8.4 inch, NS10 at 10.4 inch, NS12 at 12.1 inch, NS15 at 15.0 inch
- Resolutions: NS5 320 x 240, NS8 and NS10 640 x 480, NS12 800 x 600, NS15 1024 x 768
- All sizes are 24 VDC with an allowable range of 20.4 to 27.6 VDC, and analog resistive membrane touch
- Front panel is IP65 oil-proof and NEMA 4. UL Type 4 applies to NS5, NS10, NS12 and NS15 — not to the NS8
- Data storage uses an ATA CompactFlash slot with Omron HMC-EF183 / EF283 / EF583 cards (128 / 256 / 512 MB) and the HMC-AP001 adapter. NS does not use SD cards
- USB 1.1 with a Type-B slave port for programming and a Type-A host port for a printer — but the USB host port is absent on the NS5
- Ethernet is IEEE 802.3 10Base-T / 100Base-TX and is fitted only on the models ending in 1 before the case colour
- Programming is CX-Designer, supplied inside CX-One and included with Sysmac Studio Standard Edition. The Sysmac Studio HMI Edition is NA-only
How to read an NS-series model number
Omron's own decode table. Note the position of the Ethernet digit — it is not the resolution.
| Position | Meaning | Values |
|---|---|---|
| NS5 / NS8 / NS10 / NS12 / NS15 | Screen size | 5.7", 8.4", 10.4", 12.1", 15.0 inch |
| M / S / T | Display type | M = STN monochrome, S = STN colour, T = TFT true colour |
| Q / V / S / X | Resolution class | Q = QVGA 320x240, V = VGA 640x480, S = SVGA 800x600, X = XGA 1024x768 |
| 0 / 1 | Ethernet | 0 = no Ethernet, 1 = Ethernet fitted |
| (none) / B / S | Case colour | none = ivory, B = black, S = silver (NS15 only) |
| -V1 / -V2 / -ECV2 | Hardware version | V2 is the LED-backlight generation |
Two things this table exists to prevent. The B suffix is the bezel colour and nothing else — NS8-TV00-V2 and NS8-TV00B-V2 are the same panel in ivory and black, with identical ports, power and screen. And the Ethernet digit is the 0 or 1 immediately before the case letter, not the resolution class. Omron's decoding FAQ lists only four positions between the hyphens while real -V2 part numbers carry five, so treat the table as a legend rather than a parser.
Omron's NS to NA replacement mapping
| Your NS model | Size / resolution | Omron-designated NA successor |
|---|---|---|
| NS5 | 5.7" 320x240 | NA5-7W001B/S-V1 (7.0", 800x480) |
| NS8 | 8.4" 640x480 | NA5-9W001B/S-V1 (9.0", 800x480) |
| NS10 | 10.4" 640x480 | NA5-9W001B/S-V1 (9.0", 800x480) |
| NS12 | 12.1" 800x600 | NA5-12W101B/S-V1 (12.1", 1280x800) |
| NS15 | 15.0" 1024x768 | NA5-15W101B/S-V1 (15.4", 1280x800) |
Two things to know before you plan a swap. First, Omron's own guide maps both NS8 and NS10 onto the 9-inch NA5-9W — a physical downsize for NS10 owners, and some distributor EOL lists send NS10 to the 12-inch instead. Second, the aspect ratio changes: NS is 4:3, NA-with-W is 16:10, so layouts will not drop in unchanged. Bezel mapping is black NS to black NA (B), ivory NS to silver NA (S).
What a move from NS to NA actually costs
Omron's replacement guide flags three gaps that are easy to miss. NS serial networks using 1:N NT Link have no NA equivalent — those moves have to go to Ethernet FINS. Host Link serial support on NA is limited. And the NS Controller Link Interface Unit and Video Input Units have no NA counterpart at all, so a machine using NS-CA001 or NS-CLK21 needs redesign, not substitution. Separately, NA requires SD or USB stick storage for data logging where NS used CompactFlash.
Where these parts get used
- Keeping an end-of-life line running where the controller and ladder are unchanged and only the panel has failed
- Matching a bezel colour on a retrofit — black NS to black NA, ivory NS to silver NA
- Spares holding for an NS fleet where a full Sysmac migration is not justified by the remaining machine life
Which model do you need
- Every NS part is end-of-life. If the machine has more than a few years of life left, weigh replacing the panel and the controller together rather than just the panel.
- Match the screen size and bezel colour, not the model number — the NA successor is a different aspect ratio and a different resolution class.
- Confirm whether your machine uses NT Link serial or Controller Link before committing to an NA replacement; those paths need redesign.
- If you need the original NS part, tell us the full model including the V2 suffix and case colour, because the 0 and 1 Ethernet variants are otherwise easy to confuse.

Frequently asked
Is the Omron NS series still in production?
No. Omron discontinued the NS series in April 2022 and its own regional pages carry that banner. The NS-Runtime software licences were separately discontinued on 30 June 2025. Any NS stock available now is end-of-life or ex-stock.
What does the B suffix mean on an NS model?
Case colour, and nothing else. B is black, no letter is ivory, and S is silver on the NS15 only. NS8-TV00-V2 and NS8-TV00B-V2 are the same 8.4-inch panel with identical resolution, ports, power and touch — one ivory, one black.
Which NS models have Ethernet?
The digit immediately before the case colour is the Ethernet flag: 0 means no Ethernet and 1 means Ethernet is fitted. So NS8-TV00-V2 has no Ethernet while NS8-TV01-V2 does. The NS15-TX01B is Ethernet as standard.
Which Omron terminal replaces an NS8?
Omron's NS-to-NA Replacement Guide maps both the NS8 and the NS10 to the NA5-9W at 9.0 inch and 800 x 480. Note that some distributor EOL lists send the NS10 to the 12-inch NA5-12W instead — if a 10.4-inch panel matters for your layout, raise it with us rather than following a distributor table.
Does the NS series use SD cards?
No. NS uses an ATA CompactFlash slot with Omron HMC-EF183, EF283 or EF583 cards of 128, 256 or 512 MB, plus the HMC-AP001 adapter. The SD slot is an NA-series feature.
What software programs an NS terminal?
CX-Designer, which ships inside CX-One and is also included with Sysmac Studio Standard Edition. The Sysmac Studio HMI Edition is for the NA series only. Omron publishes version floors for controller pairing — for example an NJ5 needs NS V8.5 and CX-Designer V3.3 or later.
